  The Well Tempered Clavier II


Johnn Sebastian Bach(1685-1750) composed his most important work for the keyboad within a very short period and that at the time he had no instrument at his disposal. It's full title is "The Well Tempered Clavier, or preludes and fugues ranging though all tones and semitones, including the major third, from C to E, and the minor third, from D to F -- for the use and instruction of young people musically inclined and anxious to learn and also for those alreary versed in this study. Composed and compiled with considerable plesure by Johann Sebastian Bach, director of music at the court of Anhalt -Cothen, A D. 1722"



             



There is " handwriting manuscript of London" at British Museum in London.
Clemente owned this score. Then, it was contributed for the British Museum in London. This score clarified many things."The Well Tempered Clavier II" changed little by little, and became the present form."The Well Tempered Clavier II" was published after Bach died and passed in 51 years.It was 1801."The Well Tempered Clavier II" was completed at once in 1742. However, the contents are still more essential in 1744 and it came to be alike of the contents.



             



Was it called "The Well Tempered ClavierII" from the start?
Naw Bach's title is lost, guessing is only possible. However, having been so called from a pupil's score is guessed.However in these "The Well Tempered Clavier II" Bach wrote music for many students. Please also listen "The Well Tempered Clavier II" following "The Well Tempered Clavier I".Then, please enjoy yourself with the cembalo by Mr.Tomita and his friend and piano by Martin Reyto.
